CDT in Robotics and Autonomous Systems (CDT-RAS) receives renewed funding

Gateway Event - Modelling Visibility: How can geographic data support more natural human-computer interfaces?
Abstract: Situated human-computer interactions rely on a shared understanding of the surrounding environment. For example an instruction to an autonomous vehicle to drop you off at a particular building entrance on campus relies on your mental model of geographic space correlating to a digital representation of that space stored in the navigation system.

Gateway Event - From Uncertain Perception to Robust Action: Some Adventures with Autonomous Driving
Title: From Uncertain Perception to Robust Action: Some Adventures with Autonomous Driving
Abstract:
Centre collaborates in ground breaking study to test new therapies for Parkinson's disease
Submitted by Anne Murphy on Mon, 14/01/2019 - 16:41A ground-breaking study is to test new therapies for Parkinson’s disease on robots – replacing the need for animal testing. Over the next year, academics from Heriot-Watt University and the International Institute of Neuroscience in Brazil will join forces on the pioneering study: Neurorobotics Model of Parkinson’s disease. Currently, scientists use rats in experiments to find new treatments but in this study, data already recorded from other animals in Brazil and robots in UK will be used instead.
RAS CDT to host third student CDT conference
Submitted by Anne Murphy on Wed, 09/01/2019 - 16:07The RAS CDT is delighted to be hosting the third student annual conference held jointly with the Robotics CDTs in Bristol (FARSCOPE), Edinburgh (RAS) and Oxford (AIMS). The conference will take place at Edinburgh and Heriot-Watt Universities on Monday 3rd and Tuesday 4th June. More information about the conference can be found here https://www.edinburgh-robotics.org/cdt-student-conference-3rd-4th-june-2019
Gateway Event - Burns Supper
Gateway to Burns is a Gateway event with a twist! We hope that as many students and staff are able to join this one-off Burns Supper that will follow on from Professor Aisha Holloway's presentation on Friday 25th January in the Informatics Forum at the University of Edinburgh.
