IPAB Seminar: The SpiNNaker HPC and Robotics

The next IPAB seminar will take place on Thursday, 15th February 2017 at 12:45pm in room 4.31/33.  Pastries will be available.

Title: The SpiNNaker HPC and Robotics

Abstract:  The world of High Performance Computing (HPC) is changing at a incredible speed to try to reach exascale levels. Different types of hardware (such as GPUs, FPGAs), are trying to solve the problems that reaching exascale entails, such as power usage and performance. Today I'll introduce the SpiNNaker platform and how we use it for neural network simulation within the Human Brain Project (HBP) and support real time robotics. We will then look to how SpiNNaker can be utilised to execute general purpose computations, and therefore HPC problems and open the floor to discussions for possible avenues of collaboration.
