Louise completed an MA (Hons) in Psychology from the University of St. Andrews (1998) and a PhD in visual perception from the University of Nottingham in 2002.  As a post-doctoral researcher Louise has investigated how the brain processes depth perception (Columbia University, 2002 - 2004) and the role of the cholinergic system in visual attention in primary visual cortex (Newcastle University, 2004 - 2007).  Louise moved to the University of Sunderland in 2007 to become a Senior Lecturer in Psychology, was promoted to Principal Lecturer (Team Leader) in 2015 then joined Heriot-Watt University in 2018 as an Assistant Professor in Psychology.  Her current research interests are focused on understanding how the brain processes what we see (including emotion as well as low-level vision) and applying what we know about human behaviour to robots and human robot interaction.
