Dr. Michael Lones

Dr Michael Lones received the M.Eng. degree in computer systems and software engineering and the Ph.D. degree in electronics from the University of York, U.K., in 1999 and 2003, respectively. He was a Research Fellow with the Department of Electronics, University of York, from 2005 to 2013. Since 2013, he has been with the School of Mathematical and Computer Sciences, Heriot-Watt University, Edinburgh, where he is currently an Associate Professor. His research interests include biologically motivated models of computation and their application to problems in computational biology, medical informatics, and complex systems control. He has authored over 50 publications in these areas and is on the editorial boards of BioSystems and Genetic Programming and Evolvable Machines.

He is interested in how ideas from biology can be applied to computer science and robotics. His current research focuses on computational models of biochemical networks, and their use within adaptive control systems.
