Abstract:

Generative AI in design support: from prompt to prototype

This seminar aims to explore the potential of Generative AI to support design (especially industrial design) and to briefly explain the advantages of designing well-formed prompts. We will begin by framing text-to-text tools such as ChatGPT for idea generation and dialogue writing, moving on to multimodal systems (text-to-image, text-to-video, and text-to-voice/music) and a look at their strengths, weaknesses, and costs.  A special focus on text-to-3D pipelines will show how meshes and textures can be generated or refined and then brought straight into 3D modelling software such as Blender or game engines, such as Unity, for rapid prototyping.
