Mike Chantler is a Professor of Computer Science at Heriot Watt University. He has over 35 years of experience in AI, Robotics and Software Engineering. His Strategic Futures Laboratory specialises in developing and deploying AI tools that provide strategic insight and promote evidence-based, auditable, decision making. He has been influential in shaping Research Council strategy, having served extensively on the UKRI ICT and Digital Economy strategic advisory boards, and having promoted and introduced strategy development tools including the widely used Well-Sorted meetings tool. He has attracted over two million in grant funding, spun-out two companies, published over 150 peer-reviewed papers, and supervised more than twenty PhDs to successful completion. He is keen to see, and to help, publically funded research being used practically for real impact.
