Robotic Surgery Training System - Feedback and Learning

To implement various feedback mechanism – haptic, visual, audio – in a robotic surgery training setup and investigate the effectiveness of each for skill acquisition.
Description of the Project: 

One of the major drawbacks of robotic surgery is the loss of haptic feedback. The only feedback that surgeons receive is simply the visual cues.  We hypothesise that provision of different modality feedback including haptic, visual, and audio might enhance learning and speed up skill acquisition during training for robotic surgery.  We will experiment with different groups of novice subjects and trainee surgeons through various robotic surgery training procedures, while allowing the subjects to receive different combination/amount of feedback (haptic, audio, visual). We will analyse the performance of the subjects in different stages of learning and with different feedbacks and identify the optimal form and combination of feedback for robotic surgery training.
